LWML – Lutheran Women in Mission

At Beautiful Savior, the focus of LWML is mites, mission service and mentoring. We seek to be Christ-centered, relevant, mission-focused and affirming. Men, women and children can all participate, as we see here at Beautiful Savior when congregation members become involved in the monthly mission projects like LUMA Food Pantry, Christmas gift bags for Catholic Charities, Armed Forces Care Packages, Lutheran World Relief, etc. or contribute money via the mission envelopes or mite boxes. LWML also supports personal Christian growth by producing Bible studies, devotions and other resources, including the Lutheran Woman’s Quarterly magazine. It is structured so that women can grow and serve on a variety of levels from their local congregations to the national organization.

A major emphasis is the support of mission and ministry by means of mite box offerings. These mite box offerings have funded tens of millions of dollars in mission grants since the organization's inception in 1942. Ongoing mission projects are sponsored by LWML Mites – or regular thank offerings placed in individual mite boxes or the large mite box in the narthex.

“As he looked up, Jesus saw the rich putting their gifts into the temple treasury. He also saw a poor widow put in two very small copper coins. “I tell you the truth, “ he said, “this poor widow has put in more than all the others. All these people gave their gifts out of their wealth; but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on.” Luke 21:1-4

The LWML mite box is based on this biblical account. The monetary donations (coins, dollars, checks) that we put in the mite box join with other donations all around the nation and are used to fund district and national mission grants. We give these “mites” / donations from our heart to help wherever the Lord has planned. Please consider feeding the mite box and giving thanks to the Lord for all the gifts that He has given you.

A poster showing our state’s (Kansas District) progress is in the downstairs hallway and upstairs in the narthex lobby. We support mission projects and provide Financial Aid to synodical college and seminary students pursuing full-time church work careers.
